I want to work in the countryside:

There are careers in a wide variety of areas linked to the countryside.

This link takes you to a site which covers working with animals, plants and the land.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

This link  lists the qualifications, experience and skills you need for over 50 careers. It also tries to give an idea of what the work is like.

The following qualifications are included:

  • NQV 2, BTECH First Diploma and Certificate, GCSEs - these are all referred to as level 2 qualifications
  • NVQ 3,  BTECH National Diploma and Certificate, A2 and AS - these may be listed as level 3 qualifications
  • NVQ 4, HNDs, Foundation Degrees and Degrees - these progress from level 4 to 6

Some examples include:

  • Arboriculturalist requires HND, FD or degree in woodland management(available at Hereford College of Technology)
  • Horticulture manager requires HND, Foundation Degree or degree in Horticulture (available at Pershore, part of  Warwickshire College)

Where to study:

Within Herefordshire and Worcestershire, there are two colleges which provide courses across all levels.

They are:

Herefordshire College of Technology (Holme Lacy campus)

and Pershore College (part of Warwickshire College)
